Mickey Mouse

Today, we are going to watch a show 'Live with Disney'. The kids will get to meet and greet Disney character and also see a show.
In the morning, I was telling Sanjiv that he will be meeting Mickey in the evening after school. I told him this thinking he will be excited and will get ready for school faster.

Sanjiv: 'You mean Mickey will come out of TV ?'
Me:' Yes, it will dance with you'
He gave me that sheepish smile and booom ......
Sanjiv:'Amma, it is uncle pretending to be Mickey. It is not Mickey'.....

So for him, Mickey exist as real thing in TV and anything else is uncle pretending to be Mickey....
The day when he will know Mickey is just a cartoon character is not very far....Man, he is growing up fast.

Thank you Ms Nicole

It has been a great journey for Sanjiv so far in EtonHouse preschool. Ms.Nicole is his first teacher. She has been great with him. Even when he was reserved because lack of English language( which was a conscious decision I took), she handled him well. We would like to thank her for all the effort she had put it and for creating a good base. All the best Ms.Nicole in all your future assignment.

Concept of Death

It is so difficult to explain what death means to a 4 year old. Yesterday, I had to do this difficult task as he saw my husband take out the dead fish out of the tank.
He kept saying to me, amma the fish dive...the fish dive....
I told him that it is 'Die' and 'Dive'...then I had to explain him what death means and eventually it went to God...
Sanjiv: 'Where does God live and what does he play with'
Me; 'He lives on the sky and plays with moon and star and sun'.
Sanjiv: 'I don't see God'
Me: ' You can't see him. You can only feel him'
Sanjiv: 'How do I feel him'
Me: 'Pray that you will have to be healthy, strong and smart. and when u become all this, you will know god is there'.
Sanjiv 'Then why did the fish die'
Me: 'Because it didn't pray to be healthy'.
Sanjiv: 'I dont think so. I think he fought with other fish and crashed'
Me: 'Ok'
Sanjiv : 'Then how do u see God'
Me: 'You go to alter, you see lots of photo. That is God'
Sanjiv:' Then why did u say that you can't see God and only feel him'..
Me: in mind , aiyo...got caught ,  '
Me: 'Oh that's because kids has a challenge to feel God, we have a photo for them to see'.

Luckily, he felt too sleepy and didn't take it any further...

Helping me find lost things

Yesterday, me and Sanjiv were getting ready to go for swimming. I remember taking the swimming googles but couldn't find it later. I was carrying the towels and his water gun.He came and asked me what I was doing and why I am delaying to come down. I told me that, i was looking for the goggles.

Sanjiv: 'Amma where all did u go'

Me:'Hmmmm, I went to your room to take your swimming dress'

Sanjiv: 'Ok then let’s see there...Nope not there. Then where did u go ?'

Me: 'Went to bathroom to take the sun screen lotion'

Sanjiv went to bathroom but was not there as well.

Sanjiv: 'Are you sure you took it'

Me : 'Yes' and then I put the towel down.

Sanjiv: ' silly amma. It is with the towel and you looked all the places'....

Even though I felt bad but was happy with his logical search....

My dad's reputation at stake

Sanjiv :' Amma, grandpa cheated me yesterday'
Me: ' Is it. What did he do'
Sanjiv: ' He told me he has only 2 dollar and I can buy only one toy  and then he went and brought 2 coconut'
Good observation....Need to save my dad's face.
Me:' Oh. He was not cheating baby. He had only two dollars for toy. The other money he took to buy coconut.'
Sanjiv:' Oh is it'
Dad you owe me big time !!!!!

School break

This week is school term break got him. But I can still send to him to school as it day care as well. Since it is term break, his core teacher is on leave. Today morning, Sanjiv checked with me whether his teacher will be at school. When I told him that even today she is on leave, he was extremely happy. I checked with him why he was so happy, the reason he gave as usual gave me shock. 'amma if Ms.Nicole is not there, I can do lots of mistakes and still not get time out. 'Aiyo. This shows how much naughty he can be and how good his teacher is in controlling him.

Pictures to explain by itself :)-

I don't know what to do.

After 1 hour of swimming class, my son is saying to his swimming instructor that he knows to swim and he need not be told what to do. Oh God it is going to be hard to teach this kid anything. But it is better than last time. In his first skating class, he told the instructor that he knows to skate just after wearing the skating shoe for first time. )-

Great party

Yesterday the party was great fun. Thanks to all the friends to make it what it was , fun fun fun. Sanjiv had so much fun that even in sleep he couldn't control laughing.
The little guest were the stars in the party. The twinkle in their eyes brightened up the night. The weather God also favored as by stopping to rain just as the party started.
Our special thanks to the dads for entertaining the kids. Moms were able to sit back and catch up.
Sanjiv's special thanks to Aishu and Rhea for the wonderful hand made card

Every birthday of yours, I will remind myself of those promises.
Love you baby. Always know that mama is beside you. Wish you a happy happy birthday !!!!!!!!

Be safe or loose

Yesterday in front of our car two bikes hit each other and collied...Sanjiv saw the bikes lying on the floor and said, 'They have a choice. To be safe and drive the bike for long or break and not drive forever. Right mama ?. I always keep my toys safe.'
I told him that he is correct and they wont be able to drive the bike back home.
He told me that if you dont keep things safe and loose/break it, no one will buy it again for them. I am happy that he got the message that he has to keep his things safe. Good for him that important information is registered in his mind.

Reason for crying

Interesting conversation in the car....He was playing with my mobile.

Sanjiv : 'Mama you can't cry. you have to wait for your turn to play with mobile'.
Me: 'I don't cry for anything'
The next statement was the least expected one and shocked me as usual.
Sanjiv: 'Then why did u say that you will be cry if I go to India'....
Think Aswathi, think..
Me: 'I will cry because I miss you'
Sanjiv: 'Is it ok to Cry if you miss'
Me: 'Yes...it is ok to cry of you miss someone'

Hopefully this is correct emotion I am teaching him. It is OK to express your feeling in any form for someone....

Correlation

Sanjiv sometime make me think how can he correlate to things so nicely....Are all kids good at it ?. No idea. But I am happy that my yet to be 4 year old kiddo is good at that.....

While driving in the car together with Murali and Sanjiv, I told Murali that coming Friday most of my colleagues were taking off. Sanjiv was not in the conversation as until then he was pretending to sleep. All of sudden, even before Murali could respond, Sanjiv said that even Ms Mizzan is on leave.
(Hmmmmm....I have to watch what me and Murali talk in the room when he is around) Then I told him that Ms Mizzan is not on leave but she has left the job. I stopped thinking that the conversation is over. But there comes the next question. So, has Sundari aunty(our stay at home ex-helper) also left the job ?...I told him nicely that yes she has also left the job. It doesn't end here...His next question, 'will Kumari aunty (Our current stay at home helper) will also leave the job ?' . Hmmmmm... I told him that hope she will not leave  and will be with us for 2 more years (hopefully)...

I want to be myself

Today, in the car I was generally chit chatting with Sanjiv...Then for some reason the topic of being strong and growing up came up...I asked him if he wanted to grow up like me or like his dad....Nothing in the world could prepare me for the answer that he gave....
'I want to be myself, not like you or daddy' ...........
And I am proud to hear this from him....I wish he continues to maintain his individuality.

Why your cat has two legs only ?

It seems yesterday Sanju drew a cat picture and the cat had only two legs. So his teacher was little confused and asked how many legs cat has...For that Sanjiv had replied back saying it is 4. Then she asked him why he drew only 2 legs in the picture. Without hesitation he answered back 'because the other two are behind these two legs and you can't see them'......
Today she told us this and was laughing out.....
No picture is right or wrong as long the painter can justify his art work !!!!!!!!!

Traffic Signal

After crossing the traffic signal near my house, this is conversation me and Sanjiv had...

Sanjiv: Why we can't go when it is Red
Me:  Because it is dangerous
Sanjiv: Why is it dangerous ?
Me: If it is red and we go, we can get hit by the car
Sanjiv: silent for sometime
And after few seconds.
Sanjiv:  Can ambulance go in emergency while it is red?
(I thought what made him ask this)
Me: No. It still has to wait.
Sanjiv: Can fire truck go in red ?
Me: No. Nothing can go when it is in red.....

He seems to have been satisfied with the answer since there were no more cross examinations...But I am not sure of the answer I gave for last two questions...Let me google...

Surprise....

Over the phone .....

Sanjiv: Mom, today when you come home, get me a surprise...
Me: Ok
Sanjiv: When you come home, I have a surprise for you...
Me: Woh...what is it ?
Sanjiv: It is one kiss....
Me: Thanks...I will be very happy...
Sanjiv: Actually it is two surprise, one kiss and one hug...
Me: Woh...Thats really nice...I would be very happy...
Sanjiv: Mom dont forget to buy my surprise....

Hmmmmm....this kiddo is way to smart...he ensures that I dont go home and say his surprise is also a hug and kiss....he made it clear that I have to buy him something as surprise....
Today, me and Sanjiv had phone conversation for almost 5 min 38 Sec. This is the longest conversation he had with me and too proper one.....

Do you want to be my best friend ?

Now-a-days Sanjiv ask this question quite often and for almost everything.....
'Do u want to be my best friend ?, then listen to me.'
'Do u want to be my best friend ?, then give me one more chocolate . '

'Do u want to be my best friend ?, then charge my bike (the bike is fully charged though)....'
Sometime, he adds on 'Do you want me to be happy or not'...

Now, I have to make him understand that being best friend doesn't mean that one should do things blindly....
Now my reply is also pretty much same, 'Yes, I love to be your best friend but it doesn't mean I have to say yes to you. Being best friend means doing the right thing. So sorry, I can't do this because .....'
I really want him to understand what best friend means so that he chooses the right friends as he grows up.

Sanjiv: 'Mom which doctor are we going to see. Mine or urs'

Me: 'Yours. And why do you ask this ?'.

Sanjiv:'are you sure if he will give me sweet after seeing me.good doctor always gives me sweet'

Hmmmmmm now the doctor is decided based on whether he will get sweets or not at the end of the consultation.

Keep wondering

I keep wondering/worrying on few things. No matter how best I try not to....

What will he grow upto be...
How to maintain a healthy relationship with him...I dont want him to grow up to be mama boy yet I want him to be close to me...
Will he be always in protectibe environment
Will he grow up to be a lovely boy as he is now and yet have macho looks...

What ever it is, I will try to provide him the best I can......

Thursday, May 31, 2012

We went to Universal Studio Singapore last Saturday. It was fun. We went in all the rides where his height permitted.  Even though I don't enjoy roller coaster, I didn't want to seed the fear in him. So, I put a brave face and went along with him and Murali. As per the instruction, it was kid's friendly...In the sense it was not very big one with twist and turns. But still the speed and turns did make me feel insecure. To my surprise, Sanjiv enjoyed the ride and he wanted to go for one more time...
He came along in all the rides but didn't like the ones that was in dark environment like Madagascar ride, 4D and Camera,Action...He came out of these shows and coolly said,I don't like being in dark. Hmmmm quite reasonable.
He was fully engrossed in Water world show. He liked all the commotions.
He was very happy to receive the license after driving the car off the cliff edge. The ride was called Treasure hunt...Hardly saw any treasure though.
The ultimate fun was in Transformers ride.I didn't know what to expect in this ride. His height permitted and we saw long queue. The waiting time was 45 min. Since we had express pass, we had separate queue and hardly any waiting. So, we went in thinking it was very good. In fact it was very good but bit too much for 4 years old.
It was with 3D glasses and simulator of fast riding vehicle. As it started and he saw big over sized robots walking towards him and got scared. He was like, mom, lets go back. Again, to get rid of his fear, I told him that he needs to shoot all the bad robots and I joined him in the shooting. He really brought that and kept his fingers as gun and  didn't change style until end of the show. In the end, one of the robot, says 'Well done, you saved the world'. He was so glad to hear that. After coming out, he said, 'Amma that Robot, said well done to me and you only, not to appa. He didn't do any shooting'. He is not brave.' :)-

BBQ with school friends

Thanks to Sana's parents for arranging a BBQ for kids. They got to enjoy the company of each other outside the school environment. Also, parents got a chance to catch-up with each other with more than just a hello and bye.

Some photos's....

Sleeping posture

For past 2 weeks, I see that he has developed a new style of sleeping. So, I thought it is good idea to record it here and see how many more update I do to this post.

Most of the sleeping habit's stated below is when he starts to sleep...once he sleeps, he is all over the bed...

0 - 3 months - No idea...Too tired from diaper change and feeding...
3 months -1.5 years - Cradle
1.5 years to 2 years - On my lap on our bed....
2 Years - 2.6 years - On his father's chest...
2.6 years - 3 years - He ask us to build a fort using all the pillows. And sleeps inside that fort.
3 years to until past 2 weeks - He was sleeping beside us and have to tell him story and have to tell him he is a baby.
Past 2 Weeks to  ? - He wants to hold my hand across the chest....

Next what ?

Trip to India

We went to India for my cousin Banu's wedding. Sanjiv as usual was very excited to get all the attention and love from his grandparents and uncles & aunties. He enjoyed playing with cousins.
What struck me in this trip is his memory power. He could remember the toys where he left during his previous trip (8 months back).
As usual bike ride and feeding the cow was his full time entertainment. I was able to feed him using these two as my tramp card. Not sure for how many more trips I can utilize that.
After coming back to Singapore, he parks and starts his cycle as we did with my Kinetic Honda.
We are yet to unpack his bike we got from India...Will post the pictures soon....

Because that is the day she went through all the pain and risk of bring the life to this world. That is the day she became Mother. That's the day she was very very happy.

Am I 6 years old ?

Now everyday he post this question to me, 'am I 6 years old'. This is because he wanted to do ice skating and they said he can do only if he is six years do.
So, daily I have to answer when he will be six years old. Oh god, when will he be 18 years old ?

Don't worry

Sanjiv was riding his cycle fast. I told him to be careful in a worried voice. For that his response was don't worry mama , I will always be careful. I just hope that he is always careful and responsible in his life.

Sanjiv: 'mama don't say my friend's name one by one. That is so slow. Just say all my friends'

Can't believe that someone is saying I talk slow. Oh my god.

Skating

Finally, I managed to take Sanjiv for skating class....He and his friend Rhea were super duper excited...They in fact wanted to go for ice skating. But unfortunately the ice skating is for only kids 6+....
We managed to get the kids ready and the moment Sanjiv was fully geared, he wanted to skate....He didn't know that it was not that simple as it looks...
So I made him sit on the floor as instructed...The instructor directed the kids on how to sit and knee down and then how to stand up...so far he followed the instruction...
The instructor asked the kids to repeat the basics again. And this is where the fun started...Sanjiv was more interested to skate like pro than to repeat the very basic steps again and again. He refused to listen to the instructor..All he wanted to do was skate like bigger kids and told that instructor that he wanted to do only that and nothing else...
The instructor was trying to explain to him that first he has to stand up, then walk and then skate...but he was like, I know to stand-up and walk...He told that instructor that he will do it on his own...The instructor just let him do whatever he wanted to do...He kept trying and trying on his own to stand-up...With little help from me...he managed to stand and balance on his own for sometime...he even managed to move forward...That itself is a quite a achievement for first day...Well done Sanjiv...Good job....
Even though it is not the right way to learn things, I still like the his confident and mind set that he can learn something on his own...I like the interest he shows and the energy he has....

Chalk work by Rhea

This chalk work was shared by Rhea's mom. I just wish that at every stage of his life, he gets good friends....

Rhea's description of her chalk work is
'The sun, clouds and in the sky are African Vultures. Two boys are Anshuman and Sanjiv and both have trees beside them. They are walking with Blaze (Rhea's dog) at the beach !!!!!!'
