Wondering what was so important on last Friday..infact I wanted to blog about it on Friday itself...unfortunately no time. Nevertheless....It remains important...
Today we registered Sanjiv into pre-school. Hopefully he can go there till primary school. He will be starting his school from 3rd Jan 2011. Initially he will be going for half-day and if he enjoys it he can be there for whole day(till 3.30pm)....We took him to the school on Friday and he simply enjoyed being there. Not sure if he will enjoy it this much without us around and for longer time on daily basis.
He will be going to
EtonHouse Preschool Outram branch.
Ok now some update on the process of selecting the school.
I didn't want to write out the frustration I felt while selecting the pre-school. Now that it is all over,I am at ease to write about it. This has been the most tedious thing I ever did w.r.t to education (even while selecting my engineering college i never felt any tension). The criteria I had for the school was
- First of all, I wanted a school where he can be enrolled till primary school.
- Close to my home.
- Then I wanted a place where he can interact with all races( Indian, local Singaporean, Chinese, western)
- learn proper grammar.
- I wanted a school with open play ground.
- Not way to expensive (Private education in Singapore is expensive).
- With good reputation.
Doesn't my requirement sound reasonable. With these criteria I started shortlisting for schools.
Eton house outram was the first school we saw as it was close to our working place (far my home though). We saw it to get an idea and to set a bench mark. Murali liked it the moment he stepped in. I also liked it but didn't want to get too excited about it as it was far from home. So we left saying thanks and we will get back to you soon.
As I stay in less popular expat location, good school close to house was ruled out in first week of the search. One international school is coming up next to my house but the fees, esp the non-refundable registration fee is way too high. So ruled out. Then we saw few schools slightly far from our home but with transport facility, then, remember Murali liked Eton house and me too. So somehow we came up different reason for not liking those schools.
Then I was getting tensed up or to say irritated as I couldn't finalise a school and it was almost three weeks since I started doing this. I was finding it hectic, as round the clock it was the only thing that running in my mind. I had called up almost all the international school. Either they were too far or we were in waiting list. Then Murali came up with the suggestion of enrolling him Eton house and forget looking around. The justification he gave
Flexible timing (Can be half day, full day or till 7.00pm in the evening)
Good School reputation
Good mix of all races
Close to our office
But still I wasn't comfortable as it is almost 20 min drive from my house or 35 min of MRT ride. Then I also liked this school. So, we comprised by saying that it is close to our office and in the afternoon anyway he will be asleep. Then we just went ahead with enrollment.
