Food Habits

This is one topic that I have been avoiding for this long. Mainly because his habits reflect the food habits of me when I was at his age. Later in life, I don't want him to read this blog and then blame for me for not eating properly. Still, I want him to know how his food habits were when he was 18 months old. So,today I finally decided to accept the fact and pen it down.
My mom used to say that I open my mouth to eat only when I am lost in seeing something unusual or new. I used to think how difficult it could have been to give a little baby something new daily. From my previous blog you could have understood the difficulties I have in giving him something new on a daily basis. So I don't want to write it again...Lets get into his liking...
when he was less than one year, he loved the baby food. Esp the one that is not home made. Now he has developed strong taste. Anything that is sweet can be easily given to him. Absolutely no problem. Everything else, I can give him only when he doesn't realise that he is eating. So, put on the TV, give him something to fiddle with...by one hours time, he manages to finish eating...
His all time favourite is Cheese and yogurt...But can't cheat him by adding yogurt to rice or spreading cheese onto bread. Just plain cheese and yogurt.
I tried spreading Jam on the bread. He is definitely smarter. He chews in all the jam and throws off the bread. Hmmmm...lost for words.
Doctor told me that making him eat with TV on is not so good habit. Being a good mother, I tried to do the right thing. So, I switched off the TV when he eats..It didn't last for more than one day. Back to square one. Easy to be said than to be done. But I am more determined, I will eventually make him eat with TV switched off...It took me almost 30 years to come out of this habit. So, I am confident that he will also learn this art.
One good thing about him is, he is not as choosy as me. At his age all I could eat was yogurt rice and potato. He is far better than me.He eats anything I give, provided he is distracted and the food is in puree form.He is too lazy to chew. I should make him eat more solid foods. Can't keep giving him puree forms.
Another habit is he needs to be fed (I remember my mom used to feed me even I was going to college. I love eating from her hand). Few days back he tried to eat on his own.But that was to mess up the place more and to put less food in to mouth. I will not say anything against this. Eating from mom's hand tastes better.....I simply love that feeling.....
I know all moms who read this blog can relate it to their kid. What I think is, it is not the problem with the kids but with the mothers. We can never think our baby eat enough food. We always thing they like only junk food.....Maybe we should learn to make a healthy food taste like junk food..They might eat it...
